This page is addressed to those managers who are looking forward to a long-awaited break but worried who will keep things “ticking over” while they’re away... or perhaps just in need of short-term help to "clear the decks" during a period of high workload.

It's rarely convenient for a business manager to take a break and “forget” day-to-day issues. Even during summer, it's financial year-end for schools. Then, there's the external audit, census, annual financial questionnaire, FBT return, payroll year-end, budget cycle, and more.

By engaging a locum, you get experienced help when you need it... with an agreed plan of action and a short "hand-over" period to give you peace of mind.

How we can help

  • Work 1 to 2 days per week on site depending on workload and issues arising
  • Attend the school outside the agreed hours if priority issues arise
  • Make ourselves available to all staff by mobile phone and email during the full working week
  • Meet with the principal, senior staff, and senior office person once per week to ensure all important issues are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Maintain a diary of all significant tasks completed and issues that arise so as to provide the business manager (upon returning) a document that brings him/her up to speed quickly and efficiently
  • Clear voice mail messages and return phone calls as the first task each morning when at the school
  • Read and respond to emails (according to priority) as required
  • Set up two directories in Outlook – the first for read emails that are low priority and the second for high priority emails
  • File all documentation received – in date order within sections of an “action items” folder
  • Make no decisions that have any medium to long term impact and leave the school exactly as you left it
